The 7th Intake of MSc. Biostatistics have registered for classes on 5th September 2016. The orientation ceremony took place at Senior Common Room, Chancellor College and it was presided over by Assistant Registrar-Academics, Mrs. Linda Saka where in attendance was the Head of Maths Department, Dr. Patrick Ali, the SSACAB-DELTAS Project Institutional Lead, Dr. Jupiter Simbeye and PG Coordinator for MSc. Biostatistics, Mr. Tsilizani Kaombe.
The 2016 Intake is a class of 13 students who have joined the programme from the University of Malawi, Chancellor College and Polytechnic and University of Namibia, where the students did their undergraduate degrees. The class has 5 female and 8 male candidates.
In her welcome remarks, the Assistant Registrar asked the students to strive to abide by Chancellor College Rules and Regulations for their stay in the college to be smooth. She highlighted the governance structure of the College and University as well as general students' rules and regulations. She also advised on the major locations on campus whenever students would like to access particular services.
In his remarks, the Head of Department welcomed the students to Chancellor College and asked them to feel free to write or approach his office whenever they have questions requiring clarifications.
The programme has cumulatively registered a record 83 students since its inception in 2010. Among whom 18 have graduated with Masters degrees, 4 with Post Graduate Diploma degrees, 9 have dropped out, and the rest are still in the system. Out of the 18 Masters graduates, 12 publications from theses in International Journals have been witnessed and numerous conference papers have been recorded.
We challenge the new intake to face the tasks ahead in the programme with much diligence in order to contribute to the established achievements.
